Jill has 20 years of experience consulting on federal and state income tax matters. Her background includes a combination of Big 4 public accounting and large multi-national corporations. Jill has extensive knowledge of state and local taxation and has served as the SALT committee co-chair for the Atlanta Chapter of the Tax Executives Institute. She also has an expertise in audit defense. To help you further evaluate her abilities, the following list includes projects/services that Jill has performed:
- Tax Accounting: Jill was responsible for reviewing and obtaining audit firm sign-off on all state related issues including identification and quantification of discrete items, changes in uncertain tax positions and FIN 48 liabilities, calculation of state effective tax rates, valuation allowance issues, and other state tax accounting matters. She managed the implementation of FIN 48 and ongoing monitoring and evaluation related to measurement and recognition. Additionally, Jill managed the overall quarterly and year-end tax accounting process for a previous company for several years.
- Tax Controversy: Most recently, Jill had overall responsibility for the federal and state controversy for a Fortune 50 company. This included oversight of the IRS examination and all state audits and appeals. Jill’s work included technical analysis of the issues, development of audit plan and strategy, settlement negotiations, documentation of uncertain tax positions, and coordination with legal counsel on state tax litigation.
- Tax Research and Planning: Jill has experience leading large restructuring projects to align corporate legal structure with business operations and initiatives. A few of Jill’s previous projects include leading a tax-free reorganization in which a PLR was obtained from the IRS, analysis of state tax implications resulting from federal and international restructurings, analysis of proposed and enacted legislation and evaluation of impact on company, coordination with state jurisdictions to obtain rulings on issues such as filing methodologies and apportionment methods, and analysis of state tax issues related to acquisitions and dispositions.
- Tax Compliance: Jill has compliance experience in a variety of areas and has performed the following: managed the preparation of federal and state income tax returns, evaluated and determined optimal filing methods, managed tax basis of numerous investments, reviewed credits and incentives, managed the amended state return process for federal audit adjustments, and prepared and reviewed estimated tax calculations.
Prior to joining Steele Consulting, LLC, Jill was Director of State Tax Planning & Audits for The Home Depot, Inc. Previous employers also include Cox Enterprises, Inc. and Pricewaterhouse Coopers, LLP.
Jill earned her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Furman University and her Masters degree in Taxation from Georgia State University.
